Whether you are a wildlife lover, a beach holiday seeker, a mountain climber, or someone looking to explore rich African cultures, Tanzania has something special for you
Tanzania is home to some of the best safari parks in the world. Places like the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara are full of wild animals. You can see lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos – also known as the Big Five. Game drives in open vehicles let you get close to these animals in their natural homes.
Every year, millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles move across the Serengeti in search of fresh grass and water. This is called the Great Migration, and it’s one of the most exciting wildlife shows in the world. You can see river crossings, predator hunts, and large herds as they travel across the plains.
Tanzania is home to Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. It stands at 5,895 meters and is a dream for hikers and adventurers. Climbing Kilimanjaro is tough but very rewarding. Even if you don't climb, just seeing the snow-capped peak is a special experience.
Tanzania has over 120 tribes, each with its own traditions, music, clothing, and languages. The Maasai, Chagga, and Hadzabe are just a few you might meet during your trip. Visiting local villages or taking cultural tours helps you learn more about Tanzania’s diverse and welcoming communities.
With its variety of wildlife, landscapes, and colorful cultures, Tanzania is a paradise for photographers. Bird lovers can also enjoy over 1,000 bird species, including flamingos, hornbills, and fish eagles.

Planning Your Tanzania Safari: What You Should Know
1. Choose the Best Time to Travel
Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the timing of your safari can affect your experience:
2. Book Early for Peak Season
Top safari camps and lodges — especially those in migration hotspots — fill up quickly, sometimes a year in advance. If you're planning to travel in high season (June to October), it's wise to book early to secure the best spots.
3. Pick Your Activities in Advance
While game drives are the heart of any safari, Tanzania also offers:
4. Be Aware of Crowds in Peak Months
From June to October, national parks like the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire are popular and can get crowded. If you prefer a quieter safari, consider traveling in the Green Season (November to March) — you’ll still enjoy great wildlife viewing and lower prices.
5. Go for a Private Safari Experience
Private conservancies and reserves in Tanzania offer a more exclusive safari. You’ll enjoy:
The official currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS)
Tanzania's central bank prohibited the use of foreign currency for local transactions and payments. foreigners, including tourists, are required to exchange foreign currency at commercial banks or exchange bureaus in Tanzania. They can still pay with bank cards or other digital methods.
Tanzania has two rainy seasons and two dry seasons:
Tanzania’s climate is generally warm and tropical, but it varies by region — coastal areas are hot and humid, while the highlands and inland parks are cooler. The country experiences two rainy seasons and two dry seasons, which affect both wildlife movements and travel conditions.
Understanding the seasonal changes is key to planning a successful safari or beach trip.

Travel Tip: This is Tanzania’s most popular travel season, so book well in advance. Prices are highest during these months, but the experience is unmatched.

Based on 63 reviewsVerified Trip of a lifetime! (From an avid traveler) The trip of a lifetime! We fit so many great activities into such a short time. We saw everything there was to see (the big five and more!). The chimp and gorilla trekking was the highlight of the trip. We were able to spend so much time just feet away from these amazing creatures. The country was incredibly beautiful. Our guides Veronica and John gave an unparalleled experience with their professionalism and knowledge. By the end of the trip we considered them family. Mukisa Safaris is the way to go if you are traveling to Uganda! English was not a problem at allService: Stellar service. The director was personally looking after me prior to the trip for matters such as briefing and sorting out accomodations as well as arranging transport. The team felt like a reliable contact for us in a foreign country.Value: Great value, amazing service and the team are true experts with plenty of experience and add great value in their stories, their knowledge about the land.Reliability: Really responsive and inspired trust. Thank you guys for an unforgettable time Gavin Z2025-02-02Verified Unforgettable Safari in the Heart of Africa We had an amazing time on a private seven-day tour with Mukisa Safaris. Despite the limited time, we managed to experience so much—more than what you'd usually see in two weeks in other countries. Our coordinator, Richard, and driver-guide, John, were incredibly friendly and dedicated to making sure we were happy. Richard helped plan the trip, offered multiple options, adjusted the itinerary to match our preferences, and gave packing tips that proved super helpful. John, on the other hand, was a tireless driver and guide rolled into one. He knows all the animals of the savannah, the best times to head out, and somehow manages to spot wildlife even while driving. Thanks to him, we not only checked off all the activities on our itinerary but even went beyond it. We saw animals that most tourists miss, like hyenas and leopards. He answered all our questions, shared stories about life in Uganda, was polite, cheerful, and always ready to solve little problems that came up along the way.The team at Mukisa Safaris are fantastic partners for anyone looking to explore Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. It’s almost impossible to organize such a trip on your own, especially on your first visit, but with Mukisa, it’s all achievable.Highly recommend! Just one tip—don’t limit yourself to a week; aim for 10–12 days to see everything this beautiful country has to offer. And yes, chimpanzee trekking (and most likely gorilla trekking, which we didn’t get to) is absolutely worth it. Don’t hesitate—it’s an investment in memories you’ll treasure forever. Alex R2025-01-04Verified Uganda/Rwanda Safari Had the most amazing time Our guide, Veronica, and driver Solomon were wonderful to travel with Always felt safe, and always knew what we were up to the following day. We were very pleased with most of our accommodations, there were a couple that had a fair amount of construction going on So many animals! Only disappointment was missing the Genocide Memorial in Rwanda. We arrived late, this was totally avoidable, oh well. Everything else was flawless Brad C2024-09-07Verified Mukisa Safaris exceeded our expectetations! Our experience with Mukisa Safaris was exceptional from start to finish. We booked our tour almost a year in advance, and as our departure date approached, we had numerous questions. Richard was fantastic at communicating with us, always responding promptly to every query, big or small. His answers were thoughtfully written, not just copy-paste responses, and they provided us with great reassurance. From the moment we arrived at Entebbe airport, we were able to relax and enjoy our adventure. Every day and every activity was meticulously organized and ran smoothly. Our tour guide, Alex, ensured we were on time and well-prepared for each day's activities. She briefed us every evening about the next day, advising us on what to wear and bring. Alex was brilliant – caring, knowledgeable, and passionate about Uganda and its wildlife. She shared many interesting stories and facts about Uganda and African culture and traditions. We enjoyed spending time with her in the evenings, but she also respected our privacy. Alex made sure we interacted with local people, participated in their activities, visited a local school, and tried local food. Dancing and having fun with indigenous people was a highlight. Our driver, Mande, was also excellent. We felt safe with him behind the wheel, and he always ensured we were comfortable and had the best views of animals and landscapes during our drives and game drives. He made sure we could take great photos without any obstacles. The accommodations improved each day. Staying in camps and hearing the sounds of birds, monkeys, hippos, and other animals was an unforgettable experience, like a symphony of nature. The quality of the rooms and tents was amazing, with comfortable beds and beautiful interiors. The food at every place was delicious – be prepared to eat a lot! Every staff member at each lodge treated us wonderfully; they were kind, smiley, and eager to hear about our adventures. We decided to visit Uganda after watching the documentary "Chimp Empire," which was filmed in Kibale National Park. It fascinated us with ichimpanzees. However, we quickly discovered that Uganda has so much more to offer! We saw all the wild animals up close, feeling like we were in a live National Geographic episode. Observing hundreds of animals eating, feeding their babies, playing, or hunting was incredible. Uganda's beautiful landscapes, safety, rich culture, and kind people made our visit extraordinary. Every forest and safari we visited was breathtaking, and Murchison Falls is a must-see!Chimpanzee and gorilla trekking were the highlights of our trip and truly unforgettable experiences. We never imagined we would be so close to gorillas, even being touched by them and watching them play nearby! The rangers' communication ensures you'll see these magnificent animals, and your safety is their top priority with armed security walking with you.Uganda is a must-see country. In our opinion, while all African countries are impressive, Uganda offers it all. You can see lions, leopards, crocodiles, hippos, beautiful birds, fascinating primates, and stunning landscapes. Choosing Mukisa Safaris was the best decision we made, as they ensured every day of our trip went perfectly! We highly recommend Uganda and Mukisa Safaris. We had a lot misconception and worries but none of it happened, they made sure we we're save comfortable and happy!! . Please take my advice and book with Mukisa Safari you will not be disappointed! esther45442024-06-26Verified The Best Safari Company in Uganda! What an unbelievable experience! We cannot praise highly enough the organisers of this trip, our hosts Mukisa Safaris with Richard Kabazzi the company owner, and our amazing, all knowledgeable, kind, passionate and loveable Tour Guide - Hami - no question too hard, nothing to much trouble, and every request greeted with a smile and an action plan, plus her brilliant Driver - Sam. Some of the roads we drove over were worse than diabolical, but we never had a single worry with Sam at the wheel. We had nothing but total confidence in his driving ability. Everything went to plan from the pickup at the airport through accommodation bookings, van transfers from one lodge to the other, timing, fuel and comfort stops, fun stops to purchase roadside nibbles like bananas, pineapples, Jak fruit and BBQ corncobs, lunches on the road, entry tickets to game parks and safaris. Everything went without an hitch…and ‘Oh My God’ the safaris. They were so well organised. Naturally, hanging out with Gorillas was the pinnacle. We had a mother Gorilla with a baby on her back ‘pose’ for photos just a couple of meters away from us before sauntering off into the jungle. Gorillas, closely followed by, in no specific order, rhinos, elephants, giraffe, monkeys, chimps, lions, birdlife, herbivores by the thousands, a croc or two, and the hippos. The Safaris were so well organised each with a guide, animal trackers, and one or two guards with weapons (only firing as a scare tactic in case of cranky elephants). The Ugandans take their world heritage parks and animals so seriously. It was uplifting to see such care. Hami also organised the opportunity for us to visit two primary schools where we donated pencils, pens, writing pads, apples, and personal hygiene items for girls, many of whom have to miss school due to their parents financial inability to purchase such items. Hami also arranged for us to visit a ‘Pygmy’ camp - native jungle people who the government have removed from the national parks and who have found it difficult to assimilate into modern Ugandan life. The people of Uganda are so vibrant, and friendly, and the colour in their clothing...eye-catching. Children waved at us in the van every inch of the tour which pretty much circumnavigated the country. We cannot recommend Mukisa Safaris highly enough. They are Simply the Best! Gary E2024-06-25Verified Best experience ever We’re very happy about our experience with Mukisa safaris, since the airport the service of our guide and driver was incredible, all the activities was perfect planned, we’re very satisfied about all the lodges that we stayed, delicious food and incredible views, obviously the best part was see a lot of wild animals and be able to connect with people in the communities. 1000% recommended, the best experience that we have had. Very grateful with all the Mukisa’s team (Veronica, Salomon & Richard) -Samantha & Enrique of Mexico 🇲🇽 samantha m2024-06-20Verified Uganda with family! The most wonderful tour, Hami and John create a home away from home/extended family feel while introducing us to the absolutely gorgeous parks of Uganda. So lucky and thankful to have been able to spend this time with them! Would recommend Mukisa to everyone with no reservations! Annie T2024-04-29Verified Beyond Words There are no words for how incredible this tour was. I had high expectations and a lot of excitement for this trip and I was nervous I was setting myself up for disappointment, but no such thing. Richard reached out several times ahead of the trip to help us prep and ensure we had what we needed. When we arrived, the tour accomodated our arrival time to Uganda. We had an incredible experience at every park. Veronica was an amazing guide sharing her love of Uganda and passion in what she does. Sam, our driver, he kept us safe and entertained especially on those long drives. We saw everything we were hoping to and more and were able to experience some of the culture. The accommodations were great and the food was excellent. I cannot recommend this tour and this tour company more. We were told that Mukisa means blessing, and that they were. Thank you for making a memory to never forget. Larissa N2024-01-14
